Detective Goren reflects on the athletic endeavors of his youth in this episode, as he tracks down the killer of a high-school basketball star and the private investigator hired to find him.
During the investigation, Goren learns the school has a proud tradition of the sport, and several prominent players have transferred in. By inquiring around the local courts, he finds evidence linking the crimes to unscrupulous gamblers and college recruiters. As Goren begins to stitch the pieces together, he discovers a more personal connection between the suspects, and unearths solid evidence to close the case.
John Krasinski, best known as Jim Halpert on the American version of The Office, portrays basketball player Jace Gleesing in this episode.
[After arresting a suspect]
Suspect: Really got the old man good, didn't you?
Goren: Yeah, well, that's how I beat all my men in the court, coach: head fake.
